Christopher Bunk grew up in Windsor, CT obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouting. Mr. Bunk went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY. During his college career, Mr. Bunk maintained full time employment with a broadcast and multimedia company as a software engineer, as well as successfully owning and operating a web based software company with up to 10 part time employees. After several years as an entrepreneur, Mr. Bunk decided to embark on a new mission by joining the team at ARES Corporation as a Systems Engineer with a focus on database driven web application development, and is proficient in PHP, Java, JavaScript, CSS, XML, HTML and SQL. He has applied his core software engineering skills to the technologies of the Semantic Web, knowledge management, collaboration, data mining, systems engineering and graphic design. He compliments these technical abilities with his experience in project management, process engineering, business strategy and business development.
Mr. Bunk was promoted into the position of ARES project manager to develop an Integrated Bio-Surveillance System (IBS) that mines and analyzes disparate data sources to detect medical epidemics and Bio-Terrorism attacks. The system architecture includes a triple store and a custom semantic technology based natural language processing engine to detect patterns in unstructured text. The system features a customizable survey system to collect medical data on-line or off-line with PDAs or desktop computers.
Mr. Bunk has lead the application of the software life cycle to many diverse projects on the Process Based Mission Assurance and Assurance (PBMA) Technology Center contract at NASA. He has made significant improvements in the quality of products by introducing systems for configuration management, defect tracking and source control. In addition to web application development, Mr. Bunk has evaluated, implemented, and integrated numerous commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software packages. Specific accomplishments in software development include the one-week implementation of a web-based forum that hosted discussions of NASA’s transformation, development of a content management system specialized for knowledge management and the implementation of a dynamic portal for NASA’s Safety and Mission Assurance community.
Mr. Christopher Bunk is an active, dedicated, multi-faceted individual. As busy as his day may seem, he always finds some time to enjoy the Southern California surf and ski scenes. His family, mom, dad and sister, are very important to him and multiple trips home back east to New England during the year.
